CHILDHOOD:
brenwyn was born to alanna and almus hyde, along with his twin brother augustus. Brenwyn grew up in his twin’s shadow, constantly competing for the attention of their father with little success. His father often reminded him of how he felt about brenwyn, making it a point to pay more attention to august and be more nurturing towards him, while he ridiculed bren. Brenwyn’s father was fairly well off, being a high ranking military man and born into wealth, while his mother wasn’t particularly wealthy. When brenwyn and august were around seven, their mother had another child, francesca. Brenwyn would end up babysitting francesca while his mother worked and his father tended to august and his other affairs. Around the age of ten, brenwyn met kai, who he quickly befriended, it is also around this time that brenwyn started stealing and sneaking around. Brenwyn learned how to play piano and began writing poetry.
TEENAGE YEARS:
On brenwyn and august’s 12th birthday, almus left their mother and took august with him. Brenwyn wrote to august for years, and never got a response because Almus disposed of every letter from him, at some point Almus sent a photo of his and august’s new family to Brenwyn, solidifying bren’s distaste for his father and eventually his twin as well. After Almus left, brenwyn’s family was left without much, and brenwyn went from just stealing small knick knacks and the like to stealing money to help provide for his family. Bren also took up some small jobs on the side, but they weren’t enough. He learned how to cook from his mother and Kai. Kai and Brenwyn got together when they’re both 14. The evening before Brenwyn’s 16th birthday, both Bren and his sister francesca, fall through the ice of a lake frozen from the winter, Brenwyn makes it out with Kai’s help, but they aren’t able to save francesca. Brenwyn didn’t celebrate his birthday that year. During his teens, he also developed a hatred for his appearance brought on by his distaste for his father, whom he shared a hair and eye color with.
EARLY ADULTHOOD:
Brenwyn was attacked in an alleyway after he confronted a man who had threatened his mother, and lost sight in his left eye. Kai proposed to bren spontaneously one night at dinner, they were 19. Kai convinced Bren to stop stealing, and Bren began helping Kai with his family’s business to earn money instead. Brenwyn’s mother fell ill, and would die without treatment, neither Bren or his mother had enough money for the treatment. In a panic, Bren took money from Kai’s savings without asking to help pay for the treatment, hoping Kai wouldn’t notice and that he could return the money before he did. Kai, however, did find out, and this would lead to the end of their relationship. After his mother returned to health, brenwyn skipped town without another word, afraid of facing his mistakes. He took up many unhealthy ways of coping during this time, including but not limited to alcohol abuse, unsafe sex, returning to stealing, and was a hired assassin for some months. While he was away, his hometown was burned to the ground.
